WINTER BALL 2008 Rocks!!
Saturday night, February 9, Highland's gym was transformed into a huge bathtub for the annual Winter Ball dance!!! Rubber ducks were everywhere as the students danced the night away!!!

Hillary Clinton made a high-energy pitch for caucus votes in New Mexico on Saturday night, laying out her vision of big changes in America to an amped-up crowd of 3,000-plus packed into the gym at Albuquerque's Highland High School.

Highland Students Represent!!!
2 of Highland's students, Joshua Grindstaff, 11th grade, and Robin Waatsa, 12th grade, recently attended the annual "Grants to Reduce Alcohol Abuse" conference at the Hyatt. They did a presentation in front of about 400 educational professionals from all over the US. The students talked about the Crossroads program and how much it has changed their lives. These 2 students represented all APS schools and they did an exceptional job. They received numerous compliments from the conference participants!!

Former Hornet Exchange Student Honored!!
Tornke Zurabashvili, an exchange student at Highland last year from the republic of Georgia. was elected a leader of the future by Bentley College because of his leadership qualities, community spirit, grades and proven ability to lead. Tomorrow25 is an annual program which selects the world's most outstanding juniors. He chose to represent Highland High School for this honor. As a winner, he attended Bentley leadership forum(Boston) where he had an opportunity to meet other winners, highranking officials and business leaders from around the world. He also was a recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award and a winner of the essay contest for Close Up Foundation. As a winner he attended a week long educational conference on Capitoll Hill in Washington D.C.
Tornike (Tony) wrote to the administration at Highland to let us know that he shares this honor with the American school that helped him so much and did not want Highland to go unrecoginized. He wanted to tell all of the Highland community thanks and in his own words, "....I want to tell all highlander that they are the best!"

Highland's We The People delivered the State Championship Trophy to the Principal after taking a resounding victory in Santa Fe. Next for this incredible group of students in WTP Nationals in washington DC...

NEW Alumni Site for Highland HS Alumni!!!
This new alumni site that was built for all alumni to use. It is a place for classmates and class reunions to join together and reconnect. It is a fantastic site and is set it up so that all information and photos have to be approved first before being uploaded on the site. Faculty can even register too. The site does not allow pop up ads, banners or any sort of outside links.

A Ryan Vigil Memorial Fund has been set up at the Bank of the West Acct #227067054 if you would like to donate. This fund has been set up by Brian Jones, President of the Zia Little League, and will be used to help the family offset funeral expenses..

Advanced Placement Information - IMPORTANT!!
The deadline to register with the Counseling Department (Christina Vasquez) for the AP exam will be on March 21st. Exam fees are $84.00 per exam, but fee wiavers are avail;able in the counseling office. Students need to come by Ms. Vasquez's office to register and receive a fee waiver.

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award for High School Seniors
The Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award (SAMMY 2008) is open to all high school seniors. For complete rules, information and to fill out an online application, click here... Prizes include $7,500 college scholarship, trip to Disney World Complex in Orlando in June 2008, and a Milk Mustache photo in USA TODAY and other national magazines. Last year’s New Mexico winner was Stephanie Louis from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Changes to Bridge Scholarship for Fall 2009!!!
UNM is changing the Bridge GPA requirement from 2.5 to 3.0 fall 2009 to keep the value of the scholarship. This will mean fewer students who get the scholarship, but students will receive a full scholarship.

Speech and Debate Student earns trip to Nationals!!!
Francesca Martinez became the first Highland High School student to Qualify for Nationals in years.
